Watercolor Workshop: Black Cat

Add a little mystery to your watercolor practice in our Watercolor Workshop: Black Cat, where we’ll paint a striking black cat using a mostly monochromatic palette with a pop of warm color for the eyes.

In this class, we’ll explore beginner-friendly techniques for painting with a limited range of colors, creating depth and dimension through changes in value rather than relying on multiple hues. You’ll learn how to build rich dark areas while preserving highlights, create soft and textured edges, and use a small accent color to draw the eye and add impact to your composition.

We’ll paint together step by step in a relaxed, encouraging environment, focusing on the process rather than perfection. By the end of class, you’ll have new techniques for working with monochromatic palettes, controlling values, creating contrast, and using accent colors effectively—skills you can carry into future watercolor projects.
